ABA parent training in New Jersey

Parent Training: Our strategies, in your hands

Your child is unstoppable. And therapy should be, too. With our expert parent training, we give you the guidance, tools and support you need to navigate the world of autism. All day, every day.

What is Parent Training

The skills your child needs, taught to you first

Parent Training is one of Centerbrite's core programs, and it means your child's BCBA works directly with you, not just your child, teaching the specific strategies that help in your family's day-to-day moments.

That might mean learning how to respond when your child is overwhelmed, how to reinforce a new skill at dinner, or how to handle a transition that always seems to go sideways. Sessions are available in your home or virtually, whichever fits your schedule better.

What Parent Training covers

What you'll walk away knowing how to do

Every family's parent training curriculum is built around their specific goals, but sessions commonly cover:

Responding to challenging behavior

Understanding what's driving a behavior, not just reacting to it, and knowing what to do in the moment it happens.

Reinforcing new skills between sessions

How to notice and encourage a skill your child is building, so it keeps growing outside of therapy hours.

Communication strategies

Practical ways to support your child's communication, whether that's verbal language, picture systems, or another approach your BCBA recommends.

Managing transitions and routines

Techniques for the specific moments that tend to be hardest, like leaving the house, ending screen time, or getting ready for bed.

Your BCBA sets clear goals for your Parent Training sessions, the same way they do for your child's own therapy, and tracks your progress toward them just as closely.

The five minutes before six o'clock

Before training

Dan could set his watch by it. Six o'clock, tablet off, and his son would scream, hit the wall, sometimes take twenty minutes to settle.
