New Jersey autism insurance law

Most families pay far less than they expect

New Jersey law requires most fully insured commercial health plans to cover ABA therapy for children under 21 with an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. If you have an individual, small group, or large group plan regulated by the state, coverage is very likely already there.

Self-funded employer plans follow federal rules and vary by employer. We check which type you have as part of benefit verification, so you don't have to figure that out yourself.

ABA therapy costs in New Jersey

What this costs your family

Most families we work with in Bergen, Essex, and Morris County pay little to nothing out of pocket once we've verified their benefits. Your child's BCBA sets the right number of weekly hours based on their specific needs, typically somewhere between 10 and 30 hours. We give you that number before anything starts, not after.

ABA services covered by insurance in New Jersey

What your plan covers

ABA therapy helps children with autism build the skills they use every single day.

Communication

Your child finds words, learns to ask for what they need, and gets to be understood.

Independence

They do more on their own, one skill at a time, with less help getting through the day.

Social connection

They learn to be near other kids, and gradually with them.

Self-regulation

They build better tools for hard moments, so fewer things derail the whole day.

Daily routines

Mornings, mealtimes, and transitions start working the way they're supposed to.

Family life

There's more of it, and less of the day spent in crisis mode.

Services covered include Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention for children up to age 4, Comprehensive and Focused ABA for children ages 4 to 16, and Parent Coaching in-home and virtual.

How it works at Centerbrite

You stay informed, not on the outside looking in.

We bring parents into the session rather than the waiting room. You see the work, understand the plan, and know how to carry it forward at home.

Small caseloads mean your BCBA knows your child week to week.

We keep caseloads manageable so your BCBA can adjust before your next reauthorization, not just when it comes up on the calendar.

Therapy happens where your child lives.

In-home sessions during real family moments: breakfast, getting ready, bedtime. Parent coaching that gives you tools for the hours we're not there.

You always know where things stand.

Regular check-ins with your BCBA, written progress notes, and direct access to the person running your child's program.
